In conjunction with Simon Fraser University, The Coast Capital Rudy Nielsen Award’s first recipient is Evan Accettola. Evan is a Métis Nation citizen with a passion for learning and teaching others about Métis people, history, and culture. He is actively involved with the Métis Nation of Ontario Youth Council and a facilitator in the MNO’s Infinite Reach program. Evan is also a licensed Practical Nurse in both British Columbia and Ontario, and volunteers as an Indigenous Crisis Responder with the Kids Help Phone Crisis Text Line. He is also a member of the Canadian Nurses Association Indigenous Relations Council, working to eliminate systemic racism within the healthcare system. Evan is currently building upon his existing education and professional experiences, completing a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Sociology and Criminology through Simon Fraser University. At SFU he is also involved in the EDI Advisory Council.
